The beautiful and colourful rag dolls from Amealco in Queretaro State are very representative of the community, the tradition started 50 years ago, the initiative was from Guadalupe Rivera, daughter of the famous Painter Diego Rivera (husband of the artist Frida Kahlo).
Guadalupe organised workshops and broguht to them fabrics, laces, buttons, patterns and different materials to elaborate the rag dolls. Guadalupe´s idea was to help the Indigenous women to obtain economical resources, and instead selling the candies in the street of the cities they will have these beautiful toys.
The handmade dolls reflects the feeling of the artisans and the traditions and colours of the Otomi culture.
